Bilt Card 2.0: Everything You Need to Know About the 2026 Transition to Cardless
July 1, 2025

Major changes are coming to the Bilt Rewards credit card program. Here's your complete guide to the Bilt Card 2.0 transition, including new features, timeline, and what current cardholders need to know.
What is Bilt Card 2.0?
Bilt Rewards announced that Bilt Card 2.0 will launch on February 7, 2026, marking a significant evolution of the popular rent and rewards program. The most notable change? Bilt is moving from Wells Fargo to Cardless (Column N.A.) as the card issuer, and instead of one card, members will choose from three distinct card options.
The Three New Bilt Card 2.0 Options
While full details won't be revealed until early January 2026, here's what we know about the three card tiers:
- No annual fee card - Similar to the current offering
- $95 annual fee card - Mid-tier option with enhanced benefits
- $495 annual fee card - Premium card with expanded perks
All three cards will feature one groundbreaking change: the ability to earn Bilt Points on eligible mortgage payments, regardless of your mortgage provider. This transforms Bilt from a rent-focused card into a comprehensive housing rewards program for both renters and homeowners.
Current Cardholders: What You Need to Know
The Good News: This Transition is Seamless
If you currently have the Wells Fargo Bilt Mastercard®, here's what makes this transition remarkably smooth:
- No hard credit pull required - Existing cardholders can select any of the three new cards with only a soft inquiry on their credit report
- Your card number stays the same - No need to update subscriptions, autopay settings, or recurring payments
- Digital wallets auto-update - Apple Pay and Google Pay will automatically refresh with your new card information on February 7
- Balance transfers available - You can transfer any balance from your Wells Fargo account to your new Bilt Card 2.0 (subject to approval)
Important Dates for the Transition
- November 5, 2025 (Noon ET) - Applications for the Wells Fargo Bilt Mastercard closed
- Early January 2026 - Full product details revealed; cardholders can select their preferred card
- February 6, 2026 - Last day to use your current Wells Fargo Bilt Mastercard
- February 7, 2026 - Bilt Card 2.0 officially launches
What Happens to Your Wells Fargo Bilt Mastercard?
You have three options:
- Transition to Bilt Card 2.0 - Select one of the three new cards and transfer your balance
- Close the Wells Fargo account - Simply close your account if you don't want to continue
- Convert to Wells Fargo Autograph Visa - If you don't transition, your account automatically becomes an Autograph Visa card with a different card number (this card earns Wells Fargo Rewards points, not Bilt Points)
After February 6, 2026, you can still access statements and make payments on any remaining Wells Fargo balance by visiting wellsfargo.com or calling 1-833-404-2272.

What Stays the Same?
Despite the issuer change, several crucial elements remain unchanged:
- Your Bilt membership - Completely unaffected by the transition
- Your Bilt Points balance - All points remain in your account
- Earning and redeeming points - Continue through the Bilt app as usual
- Access to Bilt services - All existing Bilt benefits and features remain available
The Mortgage Game-Changer
Perhaps the most exciting announcement: all three Bilt Card 2.0 options will earn points on eligible residential mortgage payments. This is revolutionary in the credit card space, as most cards don't allow mortgage payments to earn rewards.
For homeowners who've been watching renters rack up Bilt Points, this levels the playing field and potentially unlocks thousands of dollars in annual rewards on your largest monthly expense.
Why the Move to Cardless?
Cardless has emerged as a innovative player in the co-brand credit card space, issuing cards for various partners including airlines and sports teams. The move allows Bilt more flexibility in product design and potentially faster implementation of new features based on member feedback.
Bilt stated that the new card products were developed based on feedback from "tens of thousands of members" about what they wanted from their Bilt Card.

- Contact support through the chat function in the Bilt app
- Call the dedicated transition support line at 1-888-904-3420 (available for a limited time)
The Bottom Line
The Bilt Card 2.0 transition represents one of the smoothest major credit card program changes in recent memory. With the same card numbers, automatic digital wallet updates, no hard credit pulls for existing members, and the addition of mortgage payment rewards, Bilt is setting a new standard for how card issuers should handle transitions.
The real test will come in January when we see the full details of each card tier, including:
- Exact earning rates on different spending categories
- Welcome bonuses (if any)
- Premium card benefits and perks
- Whether the famous "Rent Day" promotion continues
For now, current cardholders can rest easy knowing their points are safe, their membership continues unchanged, and they'll have first access to select the new card that best fits their needs.
