Chase Sapphire Reserve®: Hidden Benefits Most Cardholders Miss in 2026
July 1, 2025

The Chase Sapphire Reserve® carries a significant annual fee — see current terms at the card page. Most cardholders know about the annual travel credit and Priority Pass lounge access. Fewer know about the dozen-plus additional benefits buried in the card's fine print that, used together, can deliver substantial value well beyond the annual fee for active cardholders.
This guide covers the hidden and underused benefits most cardholders never activate — including the major 2026 additions that changed the card's value proposition significantly.
What's New in 2026
The Chase Sapphire Reserve® received a meaningful benefits expansion in 2026. If you haven't reviewed your benefits package since last year, several additions may be entirely unknown to you.
The Edit hotel credits. The single largest new benefit: statement credits for prepaid hotel stays through The Edit by Chase Travel — Chase's hand-picked hotel collection. Each credit requires a two-night minimum and must be booked through Chase Travel. A key improvement for 2026: the timing is now fully flexible across the calendar year with no rigid biannual windows. Stays through The Edit also include bonus on-property perks — daily breakfast for two, a property credit, a room upgrade when available, early check-in, and late checkout. See current card terms for credit amounts and limits.
2026-only select hotel credit. A separate, one-time credit available through December 31, 2026 for prepaid stays at specific hotel brands booked through Chase Travel. Participating brands include IHG Hotels & Resorts, Montage, Pendry, Omni, Virgin Hotels, Minor Hotels, and Pan Pacific Hotels and Resorts. Two-night minimum required. See current card terms.
Two new Chase Sapphire Lounges coming in 2026. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) are joining the Chase Sapphire Lounge network. Cardholders with Priority Pass Select can access these lounges with up to two guests.
Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge access added. Cardholders now access select Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges and Air Canada Cafés in the U.S., Canada, and Europe with an eligible same-day boarding pass.
IHG Platinum Elite status confirmed through December 31, 2027. Covered in detail below.

The Framework: Which Benefits Actually Matter

Before diving into individual perks, here's how to think about the card's benefit structure.
Credits that require deliberate action:
- Annual travel credit (automatic on travel purchases)
- The Edit hotel credits (book through Chase Travel, two-plus nights)
- 2026-only select hotel credit (specific brands via Chase Travel, through Dec 31)
- Dining credit via Exclusive Tables (biannual — check current amounts and timing)
- Apple TV+ and Apple Music subscription
- DoorDash DashPass membership
- Lyft discounts via DashPass connection
- StubHub credit (see current terms)
- Peloton credit (see current terms)
Benefits that activate with use:
- Primary rental car collision and damage coverage when you decline the CDW
- Trip cancellation and interruption insurance
- Baggage delay and lost luggage insurance
- Purchase protection for eligible purchases
- Emergency evacuation and transportation coverage
Status and access benefits:
- Priority Pass Select — 1,300+ lounges globally, Chase Sapphire Lounges, Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges
- IHG Platinum Elite status through December 31, 2027
- National Executive Elite rental car status
- Avis Preferred Plus rental car status
- Hertz Five Star status (via IHG Platinum activation)
The honest reality: Benefits you don't activate are worth nothing. The gap between cardholders who feel this card is worth it and those who don't almost always comes down to how many of these benefits they've actually turned on.
Travel rewards points on the Chase Sapphire Reserve® are not earned until after the first portion of annual travel spending goes toward the annual travel credit. The first amount spent each year goes towards the Annual Travel Credit — see current card terms for the specific threshold.
Primary Rental Car Insurance — The Most Underused Benefit
This is arguably the most financially impactful hidden benefit on the card, and it's consistently missed because most cardholders don't know it exists until they're standing at a rental counter.
When you pay for a rental car with your Chase Sapphire Reserve® and decline the rental agency's collision damage waiver (CDW), you're covered for damage and theft as primary coverage. Primary means it pays before your personal auto insurance — you don't need to file a claim with your own insurer, risk a premium increase, or pay the agency's daily insurance add-on.
Rental car insurance at the counter adds a meaningful daily cost to any rental. On a week-long trip, declining the CDW through your Sapphire Reserve coverage produces real savings. Publisher-formulated estimate.
Coverage notes: The primary cardholder and any additional named drivers on the rental agreement are both covered. Coverage applies at most domestic and international locations — check your Guide to Benefits for specific country exclusions, as some locations have local requirements that may affect coverage.
How to use it: Pay for the rental in full with your Chase Sapphire Reserve® at the counter. Decline the CDW when offered. Save your rental agreement and any damage documentation. Contact the Chase benefits administrator (number in your Guide to Benefits) if an incident occurs.
Triple Rental Car Elite Status

Beyond insurance, the Sapphire Reserve provides complimentary elite status with three major rental car companies — offering tangible day-of-travel benefits for regular car renters.
National Car Rental: Executive Elite status. Walk directly to the Executive Aisle and choose any available vehicle at your reserved rate — including premium options — with no counter stop required.
Avis: Preferred Plus status. Skip counter lines, receive complimentary free second driver coverage on most rentals (typically a daily add-on charge), and access discounts off base rates. Note: Avis enrollment requires a human review — email Avis customer service several business days before your rental rather than waiting until you're at the counter.
Hertz: Five Star status (via IHG Platinum activation). This is the least intuitive path. Hertz Five Star is unlocked by first activating IHG Platinum Elite status through your card benefits (covered in Section 6), then linking your IHG account to Hertz. Five Star includes counter bypass at most locations and complimentary upgrades when available.
How to activate National and Avis: Open Chase Mobile → Card Benefits → "Get More With Your Card" → find "Special Rental Car Privileges." The section looks like fine print but contains the enrollment links. National is instant enrollment. Avis requires an email to customer service a few days before your rental. For Hertz, follow the IHG activation steps in Section 6.
The Edit Hotel Credits and Dining Credits
The Edit hotel credits represent the most significant new 2026 addition to the card. When you book a prepaid, two-night-minimum stay through The Edit by Chase Travel, you receive a statement credit per qualifying stay. Two credits are available per calendar year. See current card terms for the per-stay credit amount. The 2026 improvement: both credits are now fully flexible — no rigid biannual windows, use them whenever you book qualifying stays across the year.
Stays through The Edit also include: daily breakfast for two, a property credit, a room upgrade when available, early check-in, and late checkout. For stays at hotels where breakfast alone carries a meaningful per-person cost, the on-property perks often exceed the statement credit itself.
2026-only select hotel credit adds a separate credit for prepaid stays at IHG, Montage, Pendry, Omni, Virgin Hotels, Minor Hotels, and Pan Pacific Hotels booked through Chase Travel, through December 31, 2026. See current card terms for the credit amount.
Exclusive Tables dining credit provides statement credits each calendar period (biannually) for dining at Sapphire Reserve Exclusive Tables restaurants — a curated list of hard-to-book restaurants in major U.S. cities, developed in partnership with The Infatuation. The credit applies to over 275 participating restaurants, and cardholders also receive priority reservation access at participating venues. See current card terms for credit amounts and timing.
How to use The Edit: Browse The Edit collection on Chase Travel, filter by eligible properties, and book a prepaid "Pay Now" stay of two or more nights. Credits post automatically — no separate activation needed.
How to use Exclusive Tables: Find participating restaurants in your city through the Chase app or Chase Travel. Reserve and use your Chase Sapphire Reserve® to pay. Credits apply automatically on a biannual basis.
IHG Platinum Elite Status (No Spend Required)

IHG Platinum Elite is IHG's second-highest loyalty tier — normally requiring significant nights or points to earn annually. Sapphire Reserve cardholders receive it automatically upon activation through December 31, 2027, with no spending requirement.
The practical value: bonus points on IHG stays, complimentary room upgrades when available, reward night discounts, and guaranteed room availability across IHG's portfolio of more than 6,600 hotels worldwide, including InterContinental, Kimpton, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, and Hotel Indigo.
The Hertz connection: Activating IHG Platinum Elite also unlocks Hertz Five Star status when you link your IHG account to Hertz. This makes activating IHG status worth doing even if you don't regularly stay at IHG hotels.
Important: Enrollment is not automatic. You must actively enroll through the Chase Mobile app or benefits portal — find it in "Get More With Your Card." After enrolling, link your IHG account to Hertz through the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards portal to activate Five Star status.
GigSky Free International Data
A Visa Infinite benefit most cardholders never know exists: complimentary international data through GigSky, valid for a defined period per activation, when traveling internationally. See current card terms for the data amount included. Cardholders also receive discounts on additional GigSky data plans beyond the complimentary amount.
At standard international data rates, even a moderate data allotment represents meaningful savings per trip. For light international use — messaging, email, and maps when not on hotel WiFi — the free data covers most short trips adequately.
How to activate: Download the GigSky app before your trip, create an account, link your Sapphire Reserve, select your destination country, and activate the Visa Infinite offer. eSIM and physical SIM options are typically available.
Practical note: Navigation apps running continuously deplete data faster than most travelers expect. Download offline maps before departure to extend the usefulness of your free data allocation.
Stacked Lyft Discounts and DoorDash DashPass

DashPass is the widely known benefit — complimentary DoorDash DashPass membership. The Lyft discount stack it unlocks is far less known.
By linking your DashPass account to your Lyft account, you automatically unlock a discount on standard Lyft rides and a larger discount on scheduled airport rides. Cardholders also receive complimentary priority pickup upgrades each month — at busy airports and high-demand locations, priority pickup lets you bypass standard queues with a guaranteed near-arrival driver.
For travelers who use rideshare regularly at airports, the combination of the airport ride discount and priority pickup saves both money and time on every trip.
How to activate: Activate DashPass through Chase Mobile first. In the Lyft app, navigate to Menu → Payment → "Connect with DoorDash" and follow the linking steps. Discounts and priority pickup activate automatically once accounts are connected. See current terms for discount amounts.
Reserve Travel Designer and Additional Lifestyle Perks
Reserve Travel Designer. One of the least-known benefits on the card: a personalized itinerary planning service through Chase Travel. The service connects cardholders with destination experts who build custom travel itineraries based on your preferences and travel style — handling logistics, suggesting experiences and accommodations, and coordinating details before, during, and after your trip. Most useful for complex international trips or unfamiliar destinations where local knowledge adds genuine value. See current card terms for service details and value.
Apple TV+ and Apple Music. Complimentary subscriptions to both services through June 22, 2027. Apple TV+ provides access to F1TV Pro content and all Apple Originals programming. Apple Music provides access to Apple's full music catalog. See current Apple subscription terms for combined annual value.
Roadside Assistance. Up to a set number of incidents per year (see current card terms), covering towing, flat tire, dead battery, lockout, and fuel delivery. Works as a reimbursement model — arrange and pay for service, then submit a claim. Best for non-urgent situations in safe locations. See current card terms for per-incident reimbursement limits.
StubHub and Peloton credits. Statement credits available for qualifying purchases — see current card terms for amounts, timing, and any activation requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do authorized users get these hidden benefits?
Most benefits extend to authorized users, including rental car status and insurance, GigSky international data, and roadside assistance. Lounge access through Priority Pass, Chase Sapphire Lounges, and Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges is also included. See current card terms for authorized user fee and eligibility.
What if Avis status doesn't activate in time for my rental?
Contact Avis customer service by email several business days before your rental date with your card details. Enrollment requires human review — it doesn't activate instantly like National. If you're close to your rental date, call Avis directly.
Can I use the GigSky data benefit in the United States?
The benefit is designed for international use. Use your regular carrier domestically.
Do Lyft discounts stack with promo codes?
Generally yes — the percentage discount typically applies to the base fare before other credits.
How do I book a hotel through The Edit collection?
Go to Chase Travel, find The Edit section or filter hotels by the collection, and book a prepaid stay of at least two nights. Credits apply automatically — no separate credit activation is needed.
What happens if I miss the Exclusive Tables biannual dining credit window?
Unused credits for each period do not roll forward. Each biannual period is use-it-or-lose-it. Set a calendar reminder in mid-June to check your first-half credit usage.
What is the Reserve Travel Designer?
It's a personalized itinerary planning service — not standard booking support. You work with a destination expert who builds a custom trip plan based on your preferences. Most useful for complex international trips or unfamiliar destinations. Access it through the Chase Travel portal or the Chase Mobile app benefits section.
Will these benefits change?
Chase has made meaningful updates to the Sapphire Reserve benefits package, reflected in this April 2026 guide. Always verify current benefits through the official Chase Sapphire Reserve benefits page or by calling the number on the back of your card — benefit terms can change at any time.
