The new quarter is almost here, which means it is time to activate your rotating cash back categories. If you carry a Chase Freedom, Discover it, or Citi Dividend card, you are sitting on 5% cash back potential from July 1 through September 30, 2026. Here is everything you need to know, including what to activate, where to activate it, and how to make the most of it.
Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Flex: Q3 2026
Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Flex® cardholders can earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in the following categories from July 1 through September 30, 2026:
- Gas stations and EV charging stations
- Public transit
- Select live entertainment (concerts, sporting events, zoos, aquariums, amusement parks, museums, and more)
- Donations to United Way
The live entertainment category is the standout this quarter. It covers a wide range of summer activities, from concerts and sporting events to museums and amusement parks. Combined with gas stations and transit, this lineup is built around summer spending you are already doing.
The $1,500 cap means you can earn up to $75 in bonus cash back for the quarter if you max it out.
Activate your Q3 categories at ChaseBonus.com. The activation deadline is September 14, 2026. Unlike Discover, Chase does allow retroactive earnings as long as you activate before the deadline.

Discover it Cash Back: Q3 2026
Discover is keeping it practical and travel-friendly for Q3 2026. Cardholders earn 5% Cashback Bonus on up to $1,500 in purchases at the following categories from July 1 through September 30, 2026:
- Gas stations and EV charging
- Transportation (airlines, local commuter transport, including bus, rail, and ferry)
- Drug stores and pharmacies
Gas and transportation make this a strong summer road trip and travel quarter. Drug stores is a category that covers everyday essentials like prescriptions, toiletries, and household items, making it easy to hit the cap without changing your habits much. Note that car rentals, rideshare, and taxi services are not included in the transportation category.
Important: Discover does not allow retroactive earnings. You must activate before making purchases to earn the 5% rate.

- Know your caps. All three programs cap the 5% rate at $1,500 in purchases per quarter, which works out to a maximum of $75 in bonus cash back per card. After that, spending drops back to 1%.
- Map your summer plans to your categories. Road trips hit gas stations across all three cards. Flights and transit hit Discover. Live events and concerts hit Chase. Home projects hit Citi. Think about where your spending naturally falls and pick your card accordingly.
