Amex Platinum Hotel Credit: Use It on a One-Night Stay Before January 1, 2027

If you have The Platinum Card® from American Express or The Business Platinum Card® from American Express, this is your last chance to use the $600 Hotel Credit on a one-night Fine Hotels + Resorts® stay.
Starting January 1, 2027, Fine Hotels + Resorts® bookings will require a minimum two-night stay to be eligible for the credit. The Hotel Collection already has that rule. If your July to December credit is still unused, here's how to put it toward a single night before the change.
What's Changing With the Amex Platinum Hotel Credit?
Right now, a prepaid one-night Fine Hotels + Resorts® booking through American Express Travel® can earn the credit. Starting January 1, 2027, both programs will need at least two nights:
- Fine Hotels + Resorts®: One-night bookings can still earn the credit in 2026. Starting January 1, 2027, a minimum two-night stay is required.
- The Hotel Collection: A minimum two-night stay is already required, and that doesn't change.
The new rule applies to the hotel credit, not the Fine Hotels + Resorts® program itself. Amex's program terms don't set a minimum stay for the perks, so a one-night booking still gets them. It just won't earn the credit.
How Does the $600 Hotel Credit Work?

Each card account can get up to $300 in statement credits from January through June and up to $300 from July through December, for up to $600 per calendar year. Here's what counts:
- Book prepaid: The booking must be a new prepaid ("Pay Now") Fine Hotels + Resorts® or The Hotel Collection reservation through AmexTravel.com, the Amex Travel App™, or by phone.
- Pay with your card: Bookings by Additional or Employee Card Members on the account also count, but the $600 limit is per account.
- Fees don't count: Property fees, cancellation fees, and anything charged by the hotel during your stay aren't eligible.
- Timing: Credits usually post within a few days but can take up to 90 days.
Unused credit doesn't roll over. If you haven't used your July to December credit by December 31, it's gone.

How to Use Your Credit on a One-Night Stay Before January 1
- Check what's left. In your Amex account, see whether you've already used your July to December credit. If you have, the next $300 becomes available January 1, with the two-night rule.
- Search Fine Hotels + Resorts® on American Express Travel®. Pick a participating property and choose a "Pay Now" rate. Rates you pay at the hotel don't qualify.
- Book one night and pay with your card. Use your Platinum Card® or Business Platinum Card®.
- Book a few days early. Amex says bookings must be processed by 11:59 PM Central Time on December 31 to count toward the July to December period. A delay in processing could push a last-minute booking into 2027.
- Watch for the credit. It usually posts within a few days. If it hasn't shown up after 90 days, call the number on the back of your card.
Stay timing: Amex hasn't said how 2026 bookings for stays in 2027 will be treated under the new rule. To be safe, choose a one-night stay that also takes place before January 1.
Is a One-Night Stay Worth It?
A single Fine Hotels + Resorts® night works best when the prepaid rate is close to $300. Along with the credit, Amex's program terms list perks like daily breakfast for two, a $100 credit toward eligible charges, guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout, noon check-in when available, a room upgrade when available, and complimentary Wi-Fi.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Room rates: Many Fine Hotels + Resorts® properties cost more than $300 a night, so you may still pay part of the stay yourself.
- Charges at the hotel: Property fees and anything billed during your stay don't count toward the credit.
- Starting in 2027: Plan on two-night stays to use each half of the credit.
