You don’t necessarily need multiple cards. One well-chosen card can cover several lounges. For instance, an Amex Platinum will cover the Centurion Lounge + The Club (Priority Pass) + Delta Sky Club (when flying Delta), giving you options no matter which terminal you’re in. Similarly, Venture X covers the Capital One Lounge + Priority Pass locations. Choose a card that aligns with the airlines or lounges you prefer.
2. Buy a Day Pass or Lounge Membership
If you don’t have a fancy credit card (or even if you do, and it doesn’t cover a certain lounge), you can pay your way in to many DFW lounges. Here are the pay-per-access routes:
Airline Lounge Day Passes
- American Airlines Admirals Club: Anybody can buy a one-day Admirals Club pass for $79 (or 7,900 AA miles). This gets you access to all Admirals Clubs at DFW (and worldwide) for 24 hours. If you have a long layover or a round-trip same-day, it’s good at both ends.
- United Club: United discontinued selling day passes at the door, but you can still purchase an annual membership or get in with the United Club credit card. Occasionally, United offers 1-day passes via their mobile app or as part of promotions (~$59).
- Delta Sky Club: Delta no longer sells day passes as of 2020. The only way in is via membership, a qualifying credit card, or business/first class ticket on Delta.
- Capital One Lounge Pass: Don’t have the Venture X card? You can still enter DFW’s Capital One Lounge by paying $90 at the door per person. It’s steep but the lounge quality (food, drinks, amenities) can justify it if you have a long dwell time. Kids under 2 are free; other kids/adults will each need their own $90 entry unless covered as your guest.
- Priority Pass Membership (Paid): If you don’t have a credit card that gives Priority Pass, you can buy a membership outright. Plans range from $99/year + $35 per visit up to ~$429/year for unlimited visits. - American Admirals Club membership: $750–$550 per year (sliding scale based on elite status). Allows access to Admirals Clubs systemwide. AAdvantage elite members get some discounts. The Citi AA Executive card ($595/year) is a cheaper substitute that gives the same access plus additional card perks.
- United Club membership: $650–$550 per year (based on status). Or get the United Club Infinite card ($525/year) for similar access.
- Delta Sky Club membership: $695 (individual) or $1,495 (executive with guest privileges) per year for general Sky Club membership.
If you have a long multi-hour layover at DFW, paying ~$50–$90 for lounge access can be worth it – you’ll get food, drinks, Wi-Fi, and a comfortable seat. 3. Fly in Premium Cabin or Attain Elite Status

- Oneworld Sapphire/Emerald (alliance elites): If you have Sapphire or Emerald status with any oneworld airline (e.g., British Airways Gold, Qantas Platinum, etc.), you can access Admirals Clubs when flying oneworld flights out of DFW. Emeralds can also get into the Flagship Lounge.
- Delta Medallion elites: Unfortunately, Delta (and United) elites don’t get lounge access unless flying internationally in premium class. One exception: Delta Diamond Medallions who earn Choice Benefits can select an individual Sky Club membership as a perk.
- Star Alliance Gold: If you hold Star Gold with United or another Star Alliance carrier and you’re flying a Star Alliance airline (United) from DFW, you and a guest can access the United Club. However, DFW doesn’t see much Star Alliance traffic besides United.
In summary, flying business or first class internationally will generally get you into a nice lounge at DFW (often the Flagship Lounge or partner lounge). But for domestic travel, having elite status alone on U.S. airlines won’t help much – a credit card or membership is your better bet.
