Apple Card Now Fast-Tracks You to Booking.com Genius Level 2 After Just One Stay

Apple Card added a new travel perk this week, and it's a genuinely good one if you already use Booking.com. Cardholders can now unlock Genius Level 2 status, Booking.com's loyalty tier, after completing just one eligible stay or car rental, instead of the usual five bookings over two years that Booking.com normally requires.
Here's what that gets you, and more importantly, exactly what you have to do to actually earn it.
What Genius Level 2 Includes
Genius Level 2 is the second tier of Booking.com's free loyalty program. Once you're in, you get:
- 10-15% discounts on select stays
- 10-15% discounts on select car rentals
- Free breakfast at select stays
- Room upgrades at select stays (subject to availability)
Apple Card has been a Booking.com partner for a while already. Cardholders already earn 3% Daily Cash on eligible stays and car rentals when paying with Apple Card through Apple Pay, plus 2% in Booking.com Travel Credits on top of that. The Genius Level 2 fast-track is a new layer stacked on top of those existing perks, not a replacement for them.

The Fine Print Actually Matters Here
This is the part worth reading closely, because it's easy to book a stay through Booking.com and still miss out on the benefit entirely.
To qualify, your stay or car rental needs to hit all of these:
- Book through Apple's exclusive Booking.com link. A regular Booking.com search or app booking will not count. So unfortunately, that means you won’t be able to earn Kudos Boost on top of the rewards you earn since you’ll have to use Apple’s exclusive Booking.com link.
- Pay Booking.com directly, in advance. Rate types like "Pay now," "Pay later," "Pay part now, part later," or "Pay on [selected date]" work, as long as any deferred portion is paid before check-in, directly to Booking.com.
- Avoid pay-at-property or pay-at-pickup rate types. If your rate is "Pay when you stay," "Pay at the property," or "Pay at pickup" for a car rental, none of these benefits apply, no Genius status, no 3% Daily Cash, no Travel Credits.
- Pay with Apple Card, and for the Daily Cash portion specifically, pay with Apple Pay.
Eligible stays and rentals are marked with an "Apple Card Benefits" badge on the site, but even a badged listing won't earn you anything unless you also pick a qualifying rate type at checkout. Genius Level 2 status shows up within 24 hours of completing the qualifying stay or rental, and it applies to future Booking.com bookings from that point forward.
Also worth knowing: flights, flight-and-hotel packages, cruises, attractions, and airport taxis are excluded from the 3% Daily Cash portion entirely, along with any bookings made through non-U.S. IP addresses or through corporate and white-label booking portals.
Should You Actually Use This?
If you're already comfortable booking through Booking.com and understand the fine print above, this is a real, no-cost way to unlock loyalty perks fast instead of waiting on five separate stays. Combined with the 3% Daily Cash and 2% Travel Credits, it's one of the more generous simple-cardholder travel benefits currently on the market.
That said, plenty of frequent travelers are lukewarm on third-party booking sites in general, and the reaction to this launch reflects that. Some longtime hotel bookers still prefer booking directly with the property so they have full control if something goes wrong with the reservation, arguing that hotels can often match third-party rates anyway if you just call and ask. If a booking issue comes up through a third-party site, you may find yourself stuck between the platform and the property while they sort out whose responsibility it is to fix things.
So the honest take: if you already default to Booking.com for travel, this is a genuinely nice addition to Apple Card that's worth taking advantage of. If you're not already a Booking.com user, it probably isn't reason enough on its own to switch your booking habits, especially given how specific the qualifying rate types and payment steps are.
