Flighty App Review: The Flight Tracker That Actually Delivers (2025)
July 1, 2025

Air travel is unpredictable. Gates change, delays pile up, and airline apps rarely tell you what's happening until it's too late. After testing Flighty across dozens of flights, we can confidently say it's the most reliable flight tracking tool we’ve used.
What Is the Flighty App?
Flighty is a premium iOS flight tracker that pulls real-time operational data from FAA, Eurocontrol, and airport feeds. Unlike basic tracking apps, Flighty monitors your inbound aircraft, predicts delays before airlines announce them, and delivers gate changes faster than airport screens update. Developed by Ryan Jones (a former Apple employee) and a small team of aviation enthusiasts based in Austin, Texas, Flighty is built exclusively for Apple devices. It's lean, ad-free, and focused on doing one thing exceptionally well: keeping you informed when travel gets messy.
Who Should Use Flighty?
Flighty is ideal for:
- Frequent flyers who need reliable, up-to-the-second updates
- Business travelers juggling multiple bookings across different tools
- Anyone with tight connections who can't afford surprises
- Aviation enthusiasts who love tracking aircraft, routes, and lifetime flight stats
If you've ever missed a gate change or rushed to the airport for a delayed flight, Flighty solves those problems.
Key Features That Set Flighty Apart
1. Automatic Flight Import
Connect your email or TripIt account, and Flighty pulls in all your bookings automatically. I forwarded confirmation emails to Flighty's tracking inbox, and flights appeared within seconds. No manual entry required. It can even import historical flights from the past decade, giving me you a complete travel archive.
2. 25-Hour Inbound Aircraft Tracking
Flighty's "Where's My Plane?" feature monitors your aircraft 25 hours before departure. If your plane is delayed on its previous leg, you'll know before the airline updates its app!
3. Delay Predictions and Explanations
Flighty 4.0 introduced machine learning that predicts delays hours in advance and explains why they're happening: late aircraft, air traffic control congestion, or ground stops. Instead of vague airline updates, you get specific, actionable information.
4. Live Notifications That Actually Work
Push alerts for gate changes, delays, cancellations, and baggage claim info arrive faster than airline apps. Flighty even updates while you're in the air using basic messaging Wi-Fi, so you'll know about connection issues before you land.
5. Connection Risk Analysis
Flighty's Connections Assistant analyzes your layovers and flags tight connections as "Risky" or "Tight" based on airport layout, customs requirements, and real-time flight performance.
6. Lifetime Flight Log and Stats
Every flight you take gets logged with detailed data: aircraft type, tail number, route, on-time performance, and delay history. Flighty Passport provides year-end summaries showing total miles flown, airlines used, and time lost to delays, perfect for tracking elite status progress or just nerding out on your travel history.
7. Friends & Family Tracking
The Flighty Friends feature lets you track loved ones' flights privately, perfect for airport pickups. It shows real-time landing countdowns and sends alerts for delays or gate changes. No more guessing when to leave home to do an airport pickup.
Pricing: Is Flighty Worth It?
Flighty offers a free version with basic tracking, but the real value is in Flighty Pro:
- $3.99/week (pay-as-you-go for occasional travelers)
- $49/year (best value for frequent flyers)
- $249 lifetime (one-time payment)
- $89/year or $449 lifetime for Family Plan (up to 6 users)
Your first flight includes full Flighty Pro access, so you can test before committing. For $49/year, you get push alerts, 25-hour tracking, delay predictions, TripIt sync, and calendar integration.
What Could Be Better?
Flighty isn't perfect. Here are some of the limitations:
- iOS Only: No Android version exists, and the team has no immediate plans to build one. If you're on Android, you're out of luck.
- Historical Import Gaps: Some older flights didn't import automatically, even with TripIt connected. You can manually add them by emailing itineraries to track@myflightyapp.com, but it requires extra effort.
- Schedule Change Alerts Can Overreact: When airlines swap flight numbers (even for the same departure time), Flighty treats it as a cancellation and sends a scary red alert. It's technically accurate but unnecessarily alarming.
How Flighty Compares to Competitors
vs. Airline Apps: Flighty consistently delivers updates faster and more accurately than American, Delta, or United apps.
vs. FlightRadar24: FlightRadar24 excels at live map tracking, but Flighty focuses on your flights with personalized alerts and historical logs.
vs. App in the Air: App in the Air offers more features (lounges, travel guides), but Flighty specializes in flight tracking and does it better.
Bottom Line: Should You Get Flighty?
If you fly more than a few times per year, Flighty Pro is worth every penny. The $49 annual subscription pays for itself the first time it alerts you to a delay before you leave home or helps you rebook before a gate agent announces a cancellation.
For frequent travelers, business flyers, or anyone with tight connections, Flighty is the most reliable way to stay ahead of travel chaos. It's beautifully designed, obsessively detailed, and genuinely useful, the rare travel app that makes flying less stressful.
Bottom line: Flighty is the flight tracker you didn't know you needed until you try it. Download it, test the free trial, and you'll likely never fly without it again.
