Amex Platinum Uber One Credit: How to Time It for Two Years of Uber One
September 27, 2026

The Platinum Card® from American Express comes with up to $120 in statement credits each calendar year for an Uber One membership. Most Card Members just add the card in the Uber app and forget about it.
That works, but when you sign up matters more than you might expect. Starting Uber One in your first few days with the card can get you an extra year of the membership covered. Waiting a few weeks can cost you that year.
Using Kudos? Link your Platinum Card® and the Kudos Benefits Tracker shows how much of your $120 Uber One credit has posted this year and how much is left, alongside every other Platinum credit.
How Does the Amex Platinum Uber One Credit Work?
Pay for Uber One with your Platinum Card® and Amex sends back a statement credit, up to $120 per calendar year. Here are the details that matter:
- Resets January 1: The $120 limit is per calendar year, not per card member year. Unused credit doesn't roll over.
- Monthly or annual: Both the monthly and the annual Uber One plans qualify, and so do auto-renewals.
- Per account: Charges by Additional Card Members count, but the $120 limit is shared across the account.
- No free trials: Free trial periods, and any part of the fee paid with Uber Cash or a discount, don't earn a credit.
- Posting time: Credits can take up to 8 weeks to show up.
The Platinum Card® has an $895 annual fee (See Rates & Fees), so getting full value from credits like this one is part of deciding whether the card is worth keeping. Our Amex Platinum value breakdown walks through the rest of the card's credits.

Should You Pay for Uber One Monthly or Annually?

Uber One costs $9.99 per month or $96 per year. Both fit under the $120 limit, but they use it differently:
- Monthly: 12 payments of $9.99 come to $119.88, so a full calendar year of monthly billing is covered.
- Annual: One $96 payment is covered, which leaves $24 of that calendar year's credit unused.
If you plan to keep the card for years, monthly billing uses almost all of the credit. The annual plan is useful for timing, because one charge on a set date can land in a calendar year you would otherwise lose.
Calculations formulated by Kudos, based on Uber One pricing of $9.99 per month and $96 per year at the time of writing and the up to $120 calendar-year credit limit.
Link your Platinum Card® to Kudos Premium and the Benefits Tracker keeps a running total of your Uber One credits, so you can see what's left of your $120 before it resets on January 1.
When Should You Sign Up for Uber One With Your Platinum Card?
As soon as your card arrives, if there's a chance you'll reconsider it after the first year. Here's why.
Say you're approved in March 2026 and buy an annual Uber One plan with the card that same week. The $96 charge comes out of your 2026 credit. The plan auto-renews in March 2027, and that $96 comes out of your 2027 credit, before you've had to decide on your second annual fee.
That's two years of Uber One for up to $192 in credits, and the second year renews in time to post while the card is still open.
Now say you wait until late April 2026 to sign up. The renewal moves to late April 2027. If you've already closed the card around its anniversary, that renewal is charged to whatever card Uber has on file and doesn't earn a credit.
Kudos tip: Before your card anniversary, open your Benefits Tracker in Kudos to see which Platinum credits you actually used this year. It's the fastest way to tell whether the card earned its fee or whether a different card fits your spending better.

What If You Didn't Sign Up for Uber One Right Away?
You can still get two calendar years of credits by mixing monthly and annual billing:
- Go monthly now. Pay $9.99 per month for the rest of this calendar year. Every charge is covered.
- Stay monthly into January and February. Those two charges total $19.98.
- Switch to annual in March. The $96 charge brings your new-year total to $115.98, still under $120.
The rule to remember: in the new calendar year, pay monthly for no more than two months before switching to annual. A third $9.99 charge pushes the total to $125.97, and the extra $5.97 won't be covered.
Kudos adds up your Uber One credits as they post, so you can check your running total in the Benefits Tracker before you switch plans instead of digging through statements.
Make the switch well before you close the card. Credits can take up to 8 weeks to post, and Amex's terms say a canceled account may not qualify when the credit is processed.

How to Make Sure Your Uber One Credit Posts
Most missed credits come down to setup. Check these in the Uber app:
- Add the card directly. Uber One must be billed to your U.S. consumer Platinum Card®. A card added through Apple Pay or PayPal isn't eligible.
- Turn off Uber Cash for the membership. If Uber Cash is toggled on, Uber may use it to pay the fee, and that portion won't earn a credit.
- Skip third-party billing. Memberships billed through an app store or electronic wallet don't qualify.
- Update Uber if your card changes. A replacement card number has to be re-added to Uber.
If 8 weeks pass and the Uber One credit still shows as unused in your Kudos Benefits Tracker, that's your cue to check your Uber payment settings or contact Amex.
Closing your Platinum Card® doesn't cancel Uber One. If you close the card, switch Uber to another payment method or turn off auto-renew so you aren't surprised by a charge that won't be credited. Amex can also reverse credits it considers abuse, so stick to normal membership purchases.
Uber One is one of several Platinum credits that reset on January 1. See how to use your Q4 Amex Platinum credits before they expire.
