Chase Sapphire Preferred Hyatt Transfer Ratio Change 2026: What to Do Before October 1, 2026
July 1, 2025

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card just got a significant upgrade: new 3x categories, a doubled hotel credit, and Global Entry coverage. Most cardholders will come out ahead. But buried in the fine print is a change that matters a lot if you're a World of Hyatt loyalist: the 1:1 Ultimate Rewards to Hyatt transfer ratio is going away.
Here's what that means, when it takes effect, and how to make the most of your points before the window closes.
What's Changing
Starting October 1, 2026, Chase Sapphire Preferred cardholders will transfer Ultimate Rewards points to World of Hyatt at a 4:3 ratio instead of 1:1. In practical terms: 10,000 UR points will get you 7,500 Hyatt points instead of 10,000.
If you applied for the card on or after June 15, 2026, this change applies to you immediately. Existing cardholders get a grace period through September 30, 2026.
The Chase Sapphire Reserve® is not affected and retains 1:1 Hyatt transfers.

Why This Matters
Hyatt has long been considered the most valuable transfer partner in the Chase ecosystem. Hyatt points are notoriously hard to earn outside of stays, which is exactly why UR transfers were so powerful. Properties that run 20,000–25,000 Hyatt points per night become meaningfully more expensive under the new ratio.
- Under the old 1:1 ratio: A 25,000-point Hyatt award night costs 25,000 UR points.
- Under the new 4:3 ratio: That same night now requires ~33,333 UR points.
For someone redeeming at high-value Hyatt properties - Park Hyatt, Alila, and Andaz - that gap adds up fast.
The 10% Anniversary Bonus Is Also Going Away
The Sapphire Preferred's 10% anniversary points bonus is also ending. If you spent $20,000 last year, you'd typically receive 2,000 bonus points at your anniversary. New cardholders don't get this benefit at all. Existing cardholders can earn it on spending through October 1, 2026, with points awarded by January 31, 2027.
If you're counting on that bonus, make sure your spending qualifies before the cutoff.
What You Should Do Before October 1
- If you have a stash of UR points earmarked for Hyatt: Transfer them before October 1 while the 1:1 ratio still applies. Hyatt points don't expire as long as you have qualifying account activity every 24 months, so there's no downside to moving them early.
- If you're mid-redemption planning: Price out your target award nights now. If you're a few thousand points short, it may be worth closing the gap through a credit card spend or a small Hyatt points purchase before the ratio changes.
- If you're on the fence about the CSR: The Reserve retains 1:1 Hyatt transfers permanently (as of now). If Hyatt is central to your travel strategy, that's worth factoring into the $550 vs. $95 annual fee comparison.
The Rest of the Refresh Is Good News
To be clear, the overall update to the Chase Sapphire Preferred is a net positive for most cardholders:
- 3x points on gas and EV charging — new
- 3x points on vacation rentals (Airbnb, Vrbo, and more) — new
- $100 hotel credit through Chase Travel, up from $50
- $120 Global Entry / TSA PreCheck / NEXUS credit every four years — new
- Complimentary Apple TV subscription (activate by December 31, 2026) — new
- Emergency Evacuation and Transportation coverage up to $100,000 — new
Annual fee stays the same.
The card can now realistically pay for itself with a single hotel booking and a TSA PreCheck renewal. For cardholders who don't heavily use Hyatt, the refresh is straightforward value.

One Thing CSP Cardholders Don't Get: The Full Apple One Discount
The Sapphire Preferred includes a complimentary Apple TV subscription — but not Apple Music. That distinction matters if you're an Apple One subscriber.
The Chase Sapphire Reserve® covers both Apple TV and Apple Music as separate $7.50/month credits, which stack to $15/month off an Apple One plan. CSP cardholders only get the Apple TV side, so the maximum Apple One discount is $7.50/month, not $15.
If you're already paying for Apple One, the CSR's stacked credits save you $90/year more than the CSP on that benefit alone. It's one more data point in the CSR vs. CSP comparison, which is especially relevant now that both cards have just been refreshed.

Is the Chase Sapphire Preferred Still Worth It?
For most people, yes, especially now. The $100 hotel credit alone nearly offsets the annual fee. Add in the Global Entry credit amortized over four years ($30/year), the Apple TV sub, and expanded 3x categories, and the effective annual fee is minimal.
The card loses some of its edge for dedicated Hyatt point stackers, but it remains one of the strongest entry-level travel cards at the $95 price point.
